On Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at approximately 9:18 p.m., the Pima County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office requesting for our Search and Rescue team to be activated in reference to three lost subjects in the Madera Canyon area. Deputies and Search and Rescue personnel responded to the Madera Canyon area and the Department of Public Safety’s helicopter was requested to assist with the search for the subjects. At approximately 2:31 a.m. this morning, SCCSO dispatch received a 911 call from the lost hikers advising that the DPS helicopter was flying overhead. The helicopter then landed and retrieved the hikers. The hikers did not require medical attention. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reminds hikers to pack enough water, some food, a first aid kit, a flash light, and a cell phone to call for help in an emergency.
